Happy Mother's Day, all you incredible superheroes in yoga pants and sweatshirts! This Mother's Day, leave the dishes behind, gather your squad (or enjoy some solo time), and immerse in the stunning beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Whether you're a seasoned mountain pro or it's your first time, celebrating Mother's Day with an outdoor adventure is the perfect way to recharge.
Mother's Day in the Rockies
From scenic hikes to shreddin the slopes, these outdoor activities available to you on Mother's Day are top notch! And the best part? These options are baby-friendly so you get to choose how you want to celebrate Motherhood!
Mother's Day Hike
There are countless hiking trails in the Rockies that offer breathtaking views of the mountains, lakes, and valleys. There's lots of easy hikes near Calgary, Alberta that you can do with your baby!
Biking Mountain Moms
If it's your first Mother's Day, biking with your baby can be a unique and special experience. With the right gear, you can safely take your little one along for the ride and enjoy some fresh air and exercise together.
I choose to ride with a front-mounted baby seat, but you can also use behind your baby seat options, or a drag behind carrier. Biking with your baby in a front seat carrier not only provides an exhilarating experience for you, but it also offers a unique perspective for your little one. They get to see what you see, feel the rush of the wind, and soak in the breathtaking mountain vistas alongside their mountain momma.
Make sure to pack some snacks, water, extra layers, diaper, wipes, and basic bike tools in case the weather changes or a diaper/tire blow out happens!
And don't forget to take some breaks to let your baby stretch and run around and explore. Those moments always add an extra dose of joy to our biking journey, and are so beneficial for our babies!
BeachCombing Mamas
Beachcombing can be a calming and therapeutic experience. Walking along the beach, listening to the sound of the waves and feeling the sand between your toes can do wonders for your mood and well-being. And if you have your baby with you, it's a great opportunity for them to explore and experience the outdoors.
It's also a fun activity Mother's Day activity that the whole family can enjoy together. You can work together to find cool rocks and treasures, play with the sand, and maybe even splash in shallow water (if it's not glacier fed like most of our Alberta lakes)!
Plus, beachcombing can also be an educational activity that provides an opportunity to learn about the natural world. You and your family can learn about the different types of shells and rocks you find, as well as the plants and animals that live on the beach. It's a great way to encourage curiosity and a love for learning in your little one.
Mountain Moms Unite in a Mother's Day Race
Participating in a Mother's Day Race is a great mothers day activity! Celebrating motherhood while being a great example of strength and perseverance for my little dude is a memory that I'll cherish forever. And what's even more special is having your baby waiting for you at the finish line with big smiles and open arms!
Shred the Slopes on Mother's Day!
One of the best parts of living near the Rockies is a prolonged snowboard season! Sunshine Village is open until May long weekend every year which makes this activity viable for visitors, or mamas living around Calgary, Alberta.
